Female poker players: This is a man’s, man’s world.

July 12, 2010

I have personally never really experienced chauvinism myself while playing poker at a Casino and I can proudly say me and my girlfriends are frequent patrons of land based Casinos in my hometown, online casinos at which we’ve already played for years and every now and then we also fly/drive to Las Vegas as well.

Never have I been harassed or make fun of by a male or female fellow player at a Casino poker table.

However, from what I hear regarding the World Series of Poker $1,000 buy-in Ladies No-Limit Hold ’em Championship that’s held every year at the Rio, there were many incidents in which men were allowed to play in this women-only tournament and they seem to have taken advantage of the situation by harassing the female players and trying to put them down with macho jokes and other nasty antics you wouldn’t expect from people playing at this level like the player who put a tampon atop his cards at the table or the guy who dressed in drag, full makeup and wig included.

I’m sorry to hear that the Casino authorities are doing nothing to stop this from happening. I blame them for not taking care of their female customer better. Seeing how the situation was unfolding they should’ve put a stop to it. I also think female poker players shouldn’t take it personally: these are men with a complex of inferiority, threatened by the mastery and skills of a group of women who can play the most classic casino game in the same fashion as they do in tournaments like the High Heels Poker Tour or the Ladies International Poker Series.

Also, I know for a fact not all men are like that, and it was nothing against those players in particular. The guys who did that are just dealing with their own ignorance so when you look at the big picture you can see it is them who have bigger personality problems to deal with.

Like Jay-Z says “You gotta get, that, dirt off your shoulder ” LOL

AND last but not least… TODAY is my birthday!!!! WOOHOOOOOO!!! I’m turning the young and angelical age of 27 years old (LOL) and I still don’t have plans – I don’t know what I’m going to do yet but I definitely must celebrate it. I have to say I’m thankful to my mom and dad for always being there for me… to my brother for singing Happy B-day to me on the phone this morning (he actually woke me up!) and to all my friends for being there for some or the most part of this 27 years. Now … it’s PARTY TIME!

My top three girl night cocktail drinks

July 1, 2010

I’m your regular Bud Light type of girl.

But every now and then I also like to invite friends over for poker night (which ends up turning into blackjack night as we lower our difficulty standards since I kick my friends’ behinds on poker every-time) and for that I like to fix up some nice cocktails so we can enjoy over some healthy chatter -like how we hate how rich and sexy those 40 something ladies from “Sex and The City” are.

Or how I can’t stop buying stuff over the phone with my credit card (this is my grandma’s fault).

Or how my best best girlfriend from college still won’t dump that loser she continues to date past what we like to call “his expiration date”.

But anyhow. All this conversation – as you can see – needs some alcohol to it. And for that, I’m going to give you the recipes to my three favorite “girl-talk” cocktails of this month.

Berry Mojito

5 fresh mint leaves
1 t. sugar
4 lime wedges, juiced
2 oz. Bacardi Razz
1/4 oz. Chambord
1/4 oz. blue curacao
Splash of club soda
Garnish: mint, blueberries, and raspberries

In a tall glass, crush mint with a fork. Add sugar and lime juice; stir. Add Bacardi, Chambord, and blue curacao; mix. Top with club soda. Garnish.

Stigmata Caiprikoska

2 tsp sugar

Ice

3  sliced strawberries,

1 teaspoon of cranberry and lime juice.

1 spoonful of blueberries

1 spoonful of raspberries

2 1/2 oz Absolute Acai Berry vodka

Muddle the sugar into the fruit in a glass. Fill the glass with ice cubes. Pour the vodka into the glass. Stir well.

Milan Rouge

1 oz Campari
1.25 oz Wild Turkey Reserve Rye
0.75 oz Marolo Grappa alla Camomilla

Stir  together all the ingredients combined with ice. Strain the drink into a cocktail glass (better if its’ chilled), or serve on the rocks. I love to decorate these with the cherries (as in the pic) on a cocktail pick across the glass’s edge.

Cheers! 🙂
