Female poker players: This is a man’s, man’s world.

July 12, 2010

I have personally never really experienced chauvinism myself while playing poker at a Casino and I can proudly say me and my girlfriends are frequent patrons of land based Casinos in my hometown, online casinos at which we’ve already played for years and every now and then we also fly/drive to Las Vegas as well.

Never have I been harassed or make fun of by a male or female fellow player at a Casino poker table.

However, from what I hear regarding the World Series of Poker $1,000 buy-in Ladies No-Limit Hold ’em Championship that’s held every year at the Rio, there were many incidents in which men were allowed to play in this women-only tournament and they seem to have taken advantage of the situation by harassing the female players and trying to put them down with macho jokes and other nasty antics you wouldn’t expect from people playing at this level like the player who put a tampon atop his cards at the table or the guy who dressed in drag, full makeup and wig included.

I’m sorry to hear that the Casino authorities are doing nothing to stop this from happening. I blame them for not taking care of their female customer better. Seeing how the situation was unfolding they should’ve put a stop to it. I also think female poker players shouldn’t take it personally: these are men with a complex of inferiority, threatened by the mastery and skills of a group of women who can play the most classic casino game in the same fashion as they do in tournaments like the High Heels Poker Tour or the Ladies International Poker Series.

Also, I know for a fact not all men are like that, and it was nothing against those players in particular. The guys who did that are just dealing with their own ignorance so when you look at the big picture you can see it is them who have bigger personality problems to deal with.

Like Jay-Z says “You gotta get, that, dirt off your shoulder ” LOL

AND last but not least… TODAY is my birthday!!!! WOOHOOOOOO!!! I’m turning the young and angelical age of 27 years old (LOL) and I still don’t have plans – I don’t know what I’m going to do yet but I definitely must celebrate it. I have to say I’m thankful to my mom and dad for always being there for me… to my brother for singing Happy B-day to me on the phone this morning (he actually woke me up!) and to all my friends for being there for some or the most part of this 27 years. Now … it’s PARTY TIME!

World Cup 2010 semi-finals: Ready for Germany vs. Spain?

July 7, 2010

I’m trying to find a site where I can watch the World Cup online. Did you know that’s almost impossible? All I want to do is to watch Germany vs Spain on Live stream which seems to be something only McGruber or Chuck Norris could set to accomplish since you have to somehow bypass the security measures imposed by the network administrators at my office.

Oh yeah, did I mention I have an office job now?

Not full time though… for now it is only a 5 hrs. a day position but it keeps me busy.  Not very used to this “corporate” mindset yet though; I’m such a beach bum that  If you ask me I’d rather be sipping on a Pina Colada by the pool with my laptop, writing an article on how I think monogamy is so overrated right before hitting some tall waves at Hermosa: my favorite Southern Cali beach!

(Remember to never swim alone and to always swim sober. LOL)

But back to the World Cup 2010. Did you see how Germany literally butchered Argentina? Their Saturday match ended 4-0 and I was so sorry for the Argentinean team because they seemed to have given their all. Their coach is simply hilarious as well:  the antics of Diego Armando Maradona provided more fun and spice to the World Cup than the opening itself.

Now it’s’ time for Spain vs. Germany for a pass to the World Cup finals. Since I love gambling I’m sure you’ll understand it was only logical to have turned the excitement level of this game up just a notch by betting some money with my friends from the office. I was the precursor of the first office pool for World Cup betting. I’m sure everyone’s glad I was hired 😀

Germany better win. Ya’ hear!

My top three girl night cocktail drinks

July 1, 2010

I’m your regular Bud Light type of girl.

But every now and then I also like to invite friends over for poker night (which ends up turning into blackjack night as we lower our difficulty standards since I kick my friends’ behinds on poker every-time) and for that I like to fix up some nice cocktails so we can enjoy over some healthy chatter -like how we hate how rich and sexy those 40 something ladies from “Sex and The City” are.

Or how I can’t stop buying stuff over the phone with my credit card (this is my grandma’s fault).

Or how my best best girlfriend from college still won’t dump that loser she continues to date past what we like to call “his expiration date”.

But anyhow. All this conversation – as you can see – needs some alcohol to it. And for that, I’m going to give you the recipes to my three favorite “girl-talk” cocktails of this month.

Berry Mojito

5 fresh mint leaves
1 t. sugar
4 lime wedges, juiced
2 oz. Bacardi Razz
1/4 oz. Chambord
1/4 oz. blue curacao
Splash of club soda
Garnish: mint, blueberries, and raspberries

In a tall glass, crush mint with a fork. Add sugar and lime juice; stir. Add Bacardi, Chambord, and blue curacao; mix. Top with club soda. Garnish.

Stigmata Caiprikoska

2 tsp sugar

Ice

3  sliced strawberries,

1 teaspoon of cranberry and lime juice.

1 spoonful of blueberries

1 spoonful of raspberries

2 1/2 oz Absolute Acai Berry vodka

Muddle the sugar into the fruit in a glass. Fill the glass with ice cubes. Pour the vodka into the glass. Stir well.

Milan Rouge

1 oz Campari
1.25 oz Wild Turkey Reserve Rye
0.75 oz Marolo Grappa alla Camomilla

Stir  together all the ingredients combined with ice. Strain the drink into a cocktail glass (better if its’ chilled), or serve on the rocks. I love to decorate these with the cherries (as in the pic) on a cocktail pick across the glass’s edge.

Cheers! 🙂

Don’t want to hit the gym? You’re not the only one!

June 28, 2010

A girl has to work out. Seriously. In order for “my milkshake” to continue to “bring all the boys to the yard” I have to put on some hard work at the gym and lately, I’ve been struggling to make it to the gym –particularly after a Friday night at the casino where this young lady won $479.00 at the blackjack tables (mind you) and after some heavy celebratory drinking it is difficult to have the guts to really get on your jumpsuit and hit those punching bags, let alone join the Tae-Bo class or lift some weights, oh the weights!

But… I have to go to the gym. I have not seen what that place looks like in about a month, and I’m sure the guy friends I’ve been talking to won’t be very impressed If I show up to  the next Oktoberfest with a beer belly included. So in search for motivation I did what a lot of people do for answers to almost every conceivable problem mankind has faced since 1998: I went to Google.

Once there, I typed in “I don’t want to go to the gym”. Yes, as amazing as that sounds deep inside we all think our friend Google has the answers for everything. But lo and behold: it seems I’m not alone in this belief; just check out the rest of the top queries that Google suggested to me as soon as I started typing the words “I don’t want to go” based on what their users search the most:

I am no longer alone! Citizens of the Internet, you are not alone either: none of us wants to go to college, or to work. We also don’t want to sleep: I was the perfect example last night. In fact, whenever I get lucky at the tables my friends usually hate it because for one, I don’t share any of my winnings with them (why should I?) and second I make them stay, waaay past their Friday night bedtime which is usually not that early either. Trust me, I’m not leaving a table when I’m on a roll.

Now, let’s analyze the full spectrum of human emotion. People seem to also have trouble to go bed mat at their significant others (because that just may mean breakfast will not include bacon) or go to prom (because let’s face it, high school sucked right?)  And how about going through the motions? What do you mean by that? Oh ah song! Oh ok. Anyway, let’s get back to that “I don’t want to go to work” querie and let’s dig deeper:

Unbelievable but true! People do not want to go to work tomorrow, today or anymore, ever again. In fact, they’d like to listen to a song about not working today and sing it (for which they’ll need the lyrics).

My job has a great schedule and I like how my paychecks look so far so I’m not complaining, however I can understand where you’re coming from fellow Google Searchers because after all these great findings about human behavior and the things that we don’t like to do, I still don’t want to go to the gym!

Where Should I Stay in Vegas?

March 20, 2010

Las VegasI am planning another trip to Vegas this July and am getting very excited. I am thinking about staying at the Wynn because I’ve never been there, but am interested in what you guys think. Is this is a good place to stay? I’ve heard that it’s over-priced but really nice. I usually stay at the Bellagio just because I love the hotel, but I like to play at the Hilton.

Last time I was in Las Vegas I left after three days with $500 more dollars than I came with (that’s after shopping!). I’m hoping to do the same on this trip and just wanted some feedback on what everyone’s favorite Vegas hotel/casino is. I really want to try somewhere new, but don’t want to end up in a dump like the Riviera – been there, done that 😦 I made a list of all of the hotels I am thinking of, including my fav, the Bellagio, but want to see what you all like. What do you think?

Thanks for you help!

Hugs,

Juliana Peyton

Cory Lopez signs with Rockstar Energy

March 18, 2010
Cory LopezPro Sufer Cory Lopez was just announced as the newest marquee team rider for Rockstar Energy.

For those of you who don’t know who Cory Lopez is, he’s just the guy who’s won 3 Gold Medals with the X Games and helped the US to win our first gold medal in the ISA World Games. Awesome surfer!

I saw the article about this at http://www.surfersvillage.com/surfing/45811/news.htm if you want to read the whole thing, but I think the coolest thing about the team up is that Cory is really helping take surfing to a whole new level of popularity. I feel like for the first time this could really start being recognized as a major sport. Too cool.

Check out the vid below of some of Cory’s moves…

Ready for Sex Lipstick

March 17, 2010

Some chemists in California came up with a new lipstick that changes color based on a girls “mood” and it has gone on sale in the UK. The lipstick, named Mood Swing Emotionally Activated Lip Gloss, is offered by a company called Too Faced and has already gotten fans like Katy Perry.

Just as a quick poll, How many of you think this is a good idea?

I for one think some things are better left unsaid, or uncolored :), but what do you all think?

You can read more about the lipstick by going to http://in.news.yahoo.com/139/20100315/385/ten-lipstick-that-shows-when-women-want.html
